Joshua’s Proposal in Jim Thorpe
A surprise proposal on a bridge in Jim Thorpe, PA — one undercover photographer, one very unexpected crowd of tourists, and a very happy ending.
A Proposal in Jim Thorpe
Jim Thorpe is one of those places that already looks like a postcard: mountains on every side, the river running through, and historic trains rolling through town. So when Joshua told me he wanted to propose here, I knew we'd have beautiful backdrops to work with.
The plan was simple. Joshua would walk his girlfriend onto the bridge, and I'd already be there, blending in.
Undercover, Again
I was standing on the bridge, pretending to be a tourist while I waited for them to arrive.
And of course, right before they got there, a whole crowd of actual tourists showed up. 😂
So the undercover tourist had to break character. I asked everyone if they could move along, because a proposal was about to happen. They were very kind about it, but they were still making their way off the bridge when Joshua and his girlfriend stepped onto it, and for a second I was sure someone would wander right into the frame.
The Moment
Somehow, everything came together. The bridge cleared just in time, Joshua asked, and she was so happy. I managed to capture some really lovely shots, the kind where you can feel exactly how much the moment meant to both of them.
Trains and a Lake
After the proposal, we took some photos with the trains in the background. It's hard to find a more Jim Thorpe backdrop than that.
Then we headed to a nearby lake for a little engagement photoshoot. With the pressure of keeping a secret finally off, they could relax and simply enjoy being newly engaged, and the photos show it.
Why I Love These Days
Proposals are some of my favorite sessions to photograph. There's so much nervous energy beforehand, a few minutes of chaos (sometimes involving a crowd of strangers), and then one perfect moment that makes it all worth it.
I love capturing happy moments like these. 💍
