An At-Home Wedding in Milford, PA
Some of the best wedding days I've photographed are the ones that never involved a venue at all. Arturo and Romina's July wedding was one of those — a celebration held in their own backyard in Milford, decorated by their own hands, with the people they love most standing on their own grass. It's a particular kind of luxury, honestly. You can rent a ballroom, but you can't rent home.
The Aesthetic
Burgundy carried the whole day. Candles, chandeliers, deep-red pillows tucked into the seating arrangements, small styled photo spots throughout the yard. It's the kind of color that photographs beautifully — rich enough to hold its own in daylight, warm enough to feel intimate once the sun dropped. And it paired unexpectedly perfectly with Romina's own dark red hair, like the whole day had been styled around her.
The Groom in Uniform
Arturo is in the military. He wore his uniform for the wedding. That single choice does something to the emotional register of a wedding day — the formality, the discipline, the sense that this vow is one of several this person has taken seriously in their life. Set against the burgundy softness of the reception, the effect was striking.
The Ceremony Moment
The moment I keep coming back to: Romina walked down to Arturo singing him a song.
Not a first dance. Not a curated processional. She walked, and she sang. It was quiet, tender, completely off-script from what most weddings do — and it was the emotional center of the day. Sometimes the parts of a wedding that catch you off guard are the parts that end up meaning the most.
The Lake
After the ceremony, we walked over to a nearby lake for portraits. Water gives you a very different quality of light — cooler, more reflective, softer on faces. We also got a few drone shots from above, which changed the scale of everything and made the day feel slightly cinematic in a way the ground-level portraits couldn't.
What Made It
The whole wedding felt warm and personal — but the detail that really told the whole story was watching Arturo carry Romina in his arms throughout the day. Not for a specific photo. Not because someone suggested it. Just because he wanted to.
